New loves...

Whoops!

I seem to have forgotten about this lovely blog... A lot has been going on lately. I sort of got mono, not actually sure where/who from. I'm not a dirty girl, I don't go around kissing every kid on the block. I just don't understand where it's from!

A few of my newest favorite things are The Frat Collection, OPI's New York City Ballet collection, and the blog The College Prepster. Not to mention the movie The Town.

The Frat Collection is a great new website that I've recently discovered. It's really lovely. They have a large array of patterns that give you an option to pick a pattern for a frocket. You then get to pick out a t-shirt color to go with your frocket. I'm incredibly excited to try it out! Another of the greatest things that "The Frat Collection" does, besides having a ton of options, is that they allow you to enter a charitable organization of your choice to receive 10% of your order. I really love the "Jesse" on Kentucky Rain, or the "Linley" on Southern Sky or Marlin. Not to mention the "Marcia" on Flamingo or Southern Sky.

New York City Ballet is super classy. All a simple and pale colors. My personal favorite is "You Callin' Me a Lyre". A great pale shade of baby pink that would be perfect for the odd summer garden party or wedding.

The College Prepster is such a wonderful new (to me) blog that is really cute! The writer is an inspiration to me! She's a recent Georgetown graduate and seems to be perpetually classy. From the pictures her life is J. Crew and Lily Pulitzer. Her reader base is huge and something for me to aspire to.

Lastly, The Town. A movie that I didn't even want to watch. It's the story of a career bank robber from the town of Charlestown, Massachusetts. Doug MacRay (Ben Affleck) falls in love with a down to earth bank manager Claire Keesey (Rebecca Hall). Predictable shenanigans ensue and love and heart break do as well. The town is well on the way to becoming one of my favorite movies. A must see.

Shattered Class

Hey all. This week Classy Tuesday fell on a very important day in the year. Every 2 or 3 years local schools participate in a program called Shattered Lives. It centers around drunk driving and the serious problem that it is. And while looking classy is an important thing, I'd like to take today's post as an opportunity to talk about my experiences today.

Shattered Lives begins with student volunteers staging a scene of a severe drunk driving accident complete with professional make up injuries and turned over cars. The student body is called out and then the action really begins. Ambulances, fire trucks, and the police screech into the back parking lot mimicking what actually goes on in a drunk driving emergency. "Injured" students are placed in stretchers and taken away in ambulances. Students killed on scene are put into body bags and taken away in the coroner's van. At my school we are privileged to have a life flight helicopter to take kids away. The "cause(s)" aka the drunk drivers are taken into custody in police cars and taken to jail.

All throughout the day, every 15 minutes to be exact, a heart beat ending in a flat line is played over the PA system, symbolizing the one teenager who dies every 15 minutes as a result of a drunk driving incident. Additionally other volunteers are "taken" during the day by the grim reaper. The reaper knocks heavily on the door to announce their coming and they enter accompanied by paramedics and police. They announce the classmate who has died and then their obituary is read to the class.

The whole experience is made even more horrible by the obituary wall, a wall somewhere public, in our case the back side of the auditorium, where pictures and obituaries of the teenagers killed are. To help ease the pain of the mourning students, a booth with tissues and sticky notes is placed near the wall. Students are allowed to write notes to the "deceased" and stick them onto their pictures. It helps the students mourn in groups. To remember that they are not alone, others are suffering with the loss of their friends too.

Overall it was an extremely emotional day. A good friend of mine "died" in the middle of newspaper and hearing her obituary was the hardest part. Additionally, another of my friends was killed at the scene and the stories I've heard about him are the hardest to hear. Keep in mind that parents are encouraged to come and to "say goodbye" to their children. Garrett's father stroked his face and kissed his forehead, saying goodbye as best as he could. Additionally, this year one of the "drunk drivers" was a twin, her brother also participated as "one of her passengers". Upon booking her for driving drunk the police informed her that she had killed her twin brother, which completely destroyed her. Her parents had "as good as lost two children" that day. To add to all the emotional trauma, three years ago a student was killed in a one car accident when his car collided with a tree late at night, alcohol was suspected. This year, shattered lives fell on the three year anniversary of his death.

Just to sum it all up... The day was graphic and upsetting. I was on an emotional roller coaster. For the entire day, whenever the flat line came on, when a student "died", I was overcome with tears. It was incredibly sad. But the whole point was not to bog you down with troubles. The point of this was to remind my readers, all of you, that drinking and driving is NEVER a good idea. We all hear stories about people who have, people who got into the car with them, the people who were killed by them. You will never expect it to be you. And if it never is then you are incredibly lucky. But as someone who remembers what her neighborhood was like after an accident killed a neighbor and severely injured most of the family, everyone knows someone who has been affected by drunk driving. Please, don't become a statistic. Be sure that you make a good decision when it counts.

I missed you Claire!

Anyone who knows me, knows that one of the most important people in my life is my older sister, Claire who just recently turned 19 (happy birthday big sis!). Claire's spring break was last week and she and I went hog wild shopping with our birthday money. Monday, being the only day we both had free (and conveniently the day before Classy Tuesday) was dubbed shopping day! And shopping day provided me with a fresh take on Classy Tuesday!

Anthropologie (Favorite store!) provided me with a brand new top to pair with my trusty skinny jeans. Then added my new Italian Leather Combat boots (thrifted for $50) and Tiffany key for an edgy yet classy look.

My new top is a great addition to my wardrobe, and I'm so excited about it! It's a boxy t-shirt, made out of that great Anthropologie material. (If you've ever felt it then you know the kind I'm talking about, the soft cotton-y feel that flows so well.) And it's navy blue, which is so great for a red head. But the back is my favorite, it's the same material and color of blue, but they added white polka dots for a semi vintage feel. I LOVE it! I'm also super proud of it. Why you might ask... Because it's the first full priced item I've ever bought from Anthro. YAY ME!

Another perk of birthday was an Ulta shopping spree! And oh did I go CRAZY! I finally got Urban Decay's Naked 2! All I can say is OH! It's so beautiful! Not to mention my new lip stick!!! It's Urban Decay (duh) and it's sheer with lots of glitter and sparkle. I also got not one, not two, but three, THREE new Eco Tools brushes and I adore them so much! New brushes are so soft and my powder looks so great! I've also managed to track down a bottle of nail polish that is getting ready to go out of production, OPI's Mermaid's Tears, part of the Pirates Of The Caribbean collection that is going out. It took 3 weeks to find one bottle, and I'm so happy to have found it!

Last but not least, my lovely mother got me exactly what I wanted for my 16th birthday. Marc Jacobs perfume in Daisy! It smells like flowers and heaven and love all rolled into one. I'm just the happiest girl alive! THANKS MOMMY!

A very special classy tuesday.

Well! Hey there!

Classy This week was a success in more than one way... I TURNED 16 and got my license! It's so liberating! I adore driving! Windows down, sunroof open, and music on blast, I feel bad for my fellow drivers having to listen to my music, but I'm having a ton of fun! WAHOO! But I did look really great on my birthday! It sort of involved 3 outfits... and I don't have pictures of any of them... ah well... You'll eventually see them, but I'll still talk about them! And tell y'all all about my day.

It began with two of my close girlfriends Amanda and Megan busting into my room at 7:30 with balloons, roses, and strawberry bagels (my favorite). We chatted for a bit and then they left so I could begin to get ready to face the day.
I then put on a SUPER hipster outfit and went to lunch with Amanda. I wore my gray and white Urban Revelation tank top and dark wash high waisted shorts from Langford Market. Mixed with my Tiffany Key and Urban Outfitters navajo inspired sneakers I looked hot. One of my good friends, Mr. I'm-a-CEO himself, Pat Ortiz owns and operates Urban Revelation, a great new clothing company that caters to the modern teen. I LOVE my tank top! It's comfy and super stylin'. Go check out Pat and Urban Revelation!

Because my lovely father is not a fan of my high waisted shorts, I did change before going to take my drivers test. My second outfit of the day was my trusty J. Crew aqua t-shirt and Old Navy kalki shorts that come to my mid thigh. I really love them because they are just so comfy! Sadly my shirt was stained in some sort of laundry accident and it's not to noticeable, but still has to be covered up. So for a cute cover up I used my FAVORITE scarf, the black lace Langford Market one. Pairing all that with my black Kelly and Katie gladiator sandals I felt classy and confidant. Obviously it worked! I passed my test on the first try!

For a really nice dinner with a few of my close friends I went with my brand new Urban Outfitters dress and Ann Taylor black patent leather pumps. The dress is just amazing. I love it so much! It has a black underlay with a black sheer overlay. On the overlay are back, peacock blue, and old gold beads in a bunted pattern.I just feel like 1000000 bucks in the dress. Classy with a little bit of slut. LOVE LOVE LOVE!

The List, Spring Edition!

It might be cold where you are but here its 70 degrees out. And almost March (Which apart from being a springy month here it's also my birthday!) which means that in preparation for spring here is my list of what's fresh for spring!

• On your nails...

Bright colors are everything this season!

Chanel- The newest addition to Chanel's Le Vernis collection for nails is number 549, Distraction. A mild pink with a bright hue it packs a lot of punch in a little bottle. At $23 a bottle it also pack a lot of value per swipe, however Chanel, for me, is tried and true, a great brand of nail polish that stays put with a simple top coat. 

Essie- The spring 2012 colors for Essie are great this year! My personal favorites are a light pink called A Crewed Interest and a bright orange-y coral called Orange, It's Obvious!. I've never used Essie personally, but I do have friends who swear by the little white capped bottle. At $8 a bottle it is significantly more affordable than Chanel. It's all a matter of personal preference. 

OPI- With the arrival of the eagerly awaited "Holland" collection there is only one question, is there a discount for buying all of them? My favorites are "A Roll In The Hague", "I Have A Herring Problem", and "Red Lights Ahead... Where?".  "A Roll In The Hague" is a super bright orange that screams, "PUT ON SUNGLASSES!" "I Have A Herring Problem", my favorite, is a cool blue, the perfect color for going out on a lovely spring day. "Red Lights Ahead... Where?" is a flaming red/pink that reminds me of spring flowers.

• On your face...

Bold red lips, soft pinky lips and strong eyebrows are all the rage this spring and there's a lot to be excited about!

Pink Lips- For day or night light, feminine, girly lips are it. I love how the sweet look compliments a soft outfit or sets a contrast with a harsh outfit and strong eyes. Lipsticks I love are Tom Ford's Pink Dusk, Dior's Tulip Pink and Urban Decay's Midnight Cowboy.
Red Lips-Perfect for making a statement, and saying "I have arrived" without saying a word. I LOVE red lips to make a statement and add a hint of flirt and a dash of hello. My favorites are Estee Lauder's Sublime Nectar and Urban Decay in Revolution.
Strong Brows- I'm crazy about strong eyebrows and this season the rest of the world is finally catching on! As long as they are shaped the darker the better. As my good friends know Urban Decay has long been a love affair of mine, and my current desire/lust is the Urban Decay Brow Box. I've tried it and immediately fell in love.It has two colors, an eyebrow brush, eyebrow wax, and a wax brush.

Valentines Day

Well, another Valentines Day has come and gone, and left me dateless. However, I'm not going to gripe. I had a lovely evening with my wonderful mother and so it was all ok.

Sadly (or happily depending on how you look at it) Valentines day fell on Classy Tuesday and thus this week was born. The color of the the day was of course pink/red so I had to wear at least one item of pink... err, I felt the peer pressure to wear something in the pink/red family. And because red looks horrid on m, the only option was pink. This year I opted to build off my salmon pink J. Crew tee which my mother picked up for me in Las Vegas while outlet shopping last summer. Next I added a white eyelet skirt and a black cardigan with sequin buttons and my easy going oxfords.

There is a funny/annoying story about my lovely outfit. If you know me well then you know I have an obsession with my nails, they always have to be painted and cuticles clipped short. Well, I did my nails on Monday and sort of clipped my cuticle a bit short. Slightly bloody, but with a little H2O2 it was all ok. Not so much in the morning. Somehow in my haze of tired and grumbling I managed to re-open my cuticle and bleed all over my skirt. Luckily, due to some quick thinking, I was able to get the red off and dry the skirt in time to leave for school. CRISIS AVERTED. So, yay. However, lesson learned, when in doubt, use a band-aid. Especially if there is a white skirt involved.

Just A Little Western Flair...

Hey there! So, life has been really hectic, forgive me? Anywho.... Here's Classy Tuesday from February 7th of this month... classy with a bit of western flair.

I paired my favorite old skinny blue jeans with a Blue and white checkered button down that I snagged from the Anthropologie sale room earlier this year for $20. Mixed with a new addition to my closet, finally, a brown leather skinny braided belt, and my trusty brown boots from Black Friday of 2011 I felt confidant in my class without feeling to western for my taste.

And

that is difficult for me, in my area of Texas there seem to be a lot of people who identify with the cowboy vibe and that's just not me. I hate cow boy boots and anything with a large buckle and sparkles should be burned in my opinion. And don't even get me started on *shudders* cow boy hats. YUCK! Finding a happy medium of chic, slightly western, and still classy was not as easy as it might sound, but I am quite happy with the way it seems to have turned out.
