Well, another Valentines Day has come and gone, and left me dateless. However, I'm not going to gripe. I had a lovely evening with my wonderful mother and so it was all ok.
Sadly (or happily depending on how you look at it) Valentines day fell on Classy Tuesday and thus this week was born. The color of the the day was of course pink/red so I had to wear at least one item of pink... err, I felt the peer pressure to wear something in the pink/red family. And because red looks horrid on m, the only option was pink. This year I opted to build off my salmon pink J. Crew tee which my mother picked up for me in Las Vegas while outlet shopping last summer. Next I added a white eyelet skirt and a black cardigan with sequin buttons and my easy going oxfords.
There is a funny/annoying story about my lovely outfit. If you know me well then you know I have an obsession with my nails, they always have to be painted and cuticles clipped short. Well, I did my nails on Monday and sort of clipped my cuticle a bit short. Slightly bloody, but with a little H2O2 it was all ok. Not so much in the morning. Somehow in my haze of tired and grumbling I managed to re-open my cuticle and bleed all over my skirt. Luckily, due to some quick thinking, I was able to get the red off and dry the skirt in time to leave for school. CRISIS AVERTED. So, yay. However, lesson learned, when in doubt, use a band-aid. Especially if there is a white skirt involved.
Be careful with the cuticle nippers and of course, keep it classy

Just A Little Western Flair...
Hey there! So, life has been really hectic, forgive me? Anywho.... Here's Classy Tuesday from February 7th of this month... classy with a bit of western flair.
I paired my favorite old skinny blue jeans with a Blue and white checkered button down that I snagged from the Anthropologie sale room earlier this year for $20. Mixed with a new addition to my closet, finally, a brown leather skinny braided belt, and my trusty brown boots from Black Friday of 2011 I felt confidant in my class without feeling to western for my taste.
And
that is difficult for me, in my area of Texas there seem to be a lot of people who identify with the cowboy vibe and that's just not me. I hate cow boy boots and anything with a large buckle and sparkles should be burned in my opinion. And don't even get me started on *shudders* cow boy hats. YUCK! Finding a happy medium of chic, slightly western, and still classy was not as easy as it might sound, but I am quite happy with the way it seems to have turned out.

Hero/Heroine
Well, today we have one of my favorite older songs... It's called Hero/Heroine by Boys Like Girls (Official music video can be found here and lyrics can be found here)
Released in 2006 as part of the band Boys Like Girls' self titled first studio album Hero/Heroine was one of the most underrated tracks on the album. Overall, Boys Like Girls did quite well with their debut, reaching number one on the U.S. Billboard Top Heatseekers. However after the release of their second studio album Love Drunk in 2009, Boys Like Girls seemed to have lost their spark. At the conclusion of 2010 an indefinite hiatus was announced which left fans' heads spinning. When would Boys Like Girls be back was the question on all minds. At the conclusion of 2011 a hash tag on twitter reading #boyslikegirlsareback surfaced and it would seem to any fan that Boys Like Girls would come out with new material sometime in the near future.
Hero/Heroine is a great track. It has that peppy vibe, that seems to always speak to me, "HEY! It's summer!" I'm not sure why, but these types of songs always make me feel like I should be getting into a bikini and going to a pool party. Alas, currently that is not the case, but it soon will be! Anyhow, Hero/Heroine is just the perfect poppy ballad, the typical male saying the typical "you complete me" sort of thing. But this time, I really feel it, I feel like lead singer Martin Johnson really means what he has to say this time. Yes, this song is slightly generic, slightly to pop for me, but for some reason I still enjoy it whenever it pops up on my iPod.
There is a special back story to my love for Boys Like Girls... In the 6th grade, all I wanted for my birthday was to go to the Avril Lavinie concert 2 weeks after my 12th birthday. After my father was adamant about not taking me, I turned to my mother... Stunningly she said yes! So I went to Avril Lavinie with my mother, older sister, and best friend at the time, Reagan. We had a great time, she played amazingly and it was my first concert that I actually wanted to go to. Boys Like Girls were the opening act for Avril and at the time I had no idea who they were. But after they played, I knew that I was a new fan!

Crush'd
This weeks song is Crush'd by one of my favorite indie bands Say Anything. (song complete with lyrics can be found here)
Now Say Anything are, in my opinion, horribly underrated. Yes, they are more indie/techno than most groups get. Granted, most teens and young adults are lazy and don't look for new music and are content to simply float along in a haze of musical complacency. But seriously? People, lets get up off our lazy rear ends and LISTEN TO SOMETHING NEW! I can count on one hand how many people that I know LOVE Say Anything. And frankly, it's depressing. They are so full of talent they could really make a lot of noise in the music scene. The "artists" currently dominating the music scene like LMFAO rely only on Auto-Tune and synthesizers for any type of noise (I said noise, not music).
Getting back into talking about Crush'd... It's really a great song. It makes a few clever references to some of my favorite things (The Princess Bride, Oedipus Rex, Bjork) and is an all around joy to listen to. It is totally directed at a girl (lead singer Max Bemis' wife Sherri DuPree Bemis), in fact, Max even manages to sneak in a line about loving her (3 minutes 33 seconds) and not wanting her to kiss other people. The sweetest thing, yes?
That's my rant for the day, don't judge it to harshly... I'm not normally this angry!

Gold Chains
Hey there everybody! Happy Classy Tuesday!
Today I went with my favorite green cashmere peasant blouse. Paired with my usual skinny jeans and favorite brown boots I had a comfy, cozy, and classy look for a stylin' Tuesday. Julie and I agreed yesterday to wear gold jewelry too so to add a pop to my shirt I chose a gold chain and double looped it around my neck.
Jewles has on a lightweight grey long sleeve shirt, olive cargo pants and some KICKIN' (yes I am VERY jealous of the fabulousness of her boots) combat boots. HOORAY for combat boots!
Until next week, Keep it classy
