Hero/Heroine

Well, today we have one of my favorite older songs... It's called Hero/Heroine by Boys Like Girls (Official music video can be found here and lyrics can be found here)

Released in 2006 as part of the band Boys Like Girls' self titled first studio album Hero/Heroine was one of the most underrated tracks on the album. Overall, Boys Like Girls did quite well with their debut, reaching number one on the U.S. Billboard Top Heatseekers. However after the release of their second studio album Love Drunk in 2009, Boys Like Girls seemed to have lost their spark. At the conclusion of 2010 an indefinite hiatus was announced which left fans' heads spinning. When would Boys Like Girls be back was the question on all minds. At the conclusion of 2011 a hash tag on twitter reading #boyslikegirlsareback surfaced and it would seem to any fan that Boys Like Girls would come out with new material sometime in the near future.

Hero/Heroine is a great track. It has that peppy vibe, that seems to always speak to me, "HEY! It's summer!" I'm not sure why, but these types of songs always make me feel like I should be getting into a bikini and going to a pool party. Alas, currently that is not the case, but it soon will be! Anyhow, Hero/Heroine is just the perfect poppy ballad, the typical male saying the typical "you complete me" sort of thing. But this time, I really feel it, I feel like lead singer Martin Johnson really means what he has to say this time. Yes, this song is slightly generic, slightly to pop for me, but for some reason I still enjoy it whenever it pops up on my iPod.

There is a special back story to my love for Boys Like Girls... In the 6th grade, all I wanted for my birthday was to go to the Avril Lavinie concert 2 weeks after my 12th birthday. After my father was adamant about not taking me, I turned to my mother... Stunningly she said yes! So I went to Avril Lavinie with my mother, older sister, and best friend at the time, Reagan. We had a great time, she played amazingly and it was my first concert that I actually wanted to go to. Boys Like Girls were the opening act for Avril and at the time I had no idea who they were. But after they played, I knew that I was a new fan!
